2025 was another milestone year for The Furniture Project. This year brought growth, new opportunities for us and our clients and powerful reminders of why our mission matters.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, Americans discarded approximately 12.1 million tons of furniture and furnishings in 2018. Most of this furniture ends up in landfills, contributing to waste and environmental impact.

Leaving an abusive situation is one of the most courageous and difficult decisions a person can make. It often means walking away from everything, including furniture, belongings and basic household necessities to find safety. Many of the people that we serve are survivors of domestic violence and we take that responsibility seriously.

National Days of Service remind us as a community to take an inventory of our community’s highest needs. September 11th is an opportunity to ask: how can I help serve my neighbors?

Families moving out of homelessness or housing instability often enter homes that are empty. This isn’t just uncomfortable—it can impact their growth and development.

The Furniture Project is excited to announce that we have been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Refugee Community Grant Fund through Omaha Community Foundation (OCF).

When our community’s needs change, we are proud to step in to help. In response to the closing of City View Apartments, we’ve partnered with Metro Housing Collaborative and North Omaha Community Partnership to help those displaced with new furniture and household goods.

Our volunteers play an essential role in ensuring that the gently used furniture we receive reaches those who need it most. From sorting donations and warehouse support to providing a friendly face to clients in our office, each volunteer is an integral part of our mission.
