The Furniture Project Awarded Omaha Community Foundation Refugee Community Grant Funds

Our goal is to deliver more than household goods. Through furniture, we provide stability, safety and a sense of belonging. We remove barriers to ensure every family referred to us gets the items they need to furnish a home at no cost.

The Furniture Project is excited to announce that we have been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Refugee Community Grant Fund through Omaha Community Foundation (OCF). These funds support our work to create welcoming, dignified homes for our new neighbors. This investment comes as part of a broader round of grants awarded in 2025 to 13 refugee-led or refugee-serving organizations.

OCF's Refugee Community Grant Fund is designed to lift grassroots organizations that directly serve refugee and immigrant communities in Douglas and Sarpy counties. It prioritizes:

  • Family stability and youth support

  • Education, cultural connection and inclusion

  • Physical and mental health

  • Resources that promote a sense of belonging

Our goal is to deliver more than household goods. Through furniture, we provide stability, safety and a sense of belonging. We remove barriers to ensure every family referred to us gets the items they need to furnish a home at no cost.

While immigrants and refugees comprise a substantial part of our client base, we also serve families recovering from medical emergencies, or people leaving dangerous situations such as domestic violence or natural disasters.

We invite the public to fuel this mission through:

  • Furniture & household goods donations – Bring your gently used items to our warehouse, especially smaller-sized dining tables and dressers.

  • Volunteering & hosting a drive – Help with sorting, delivery and client support at our warehouse or host a furniture/household goods drive with a group.

  • Financial gifts – Contribute financially to support our work that transforms houses into homes.

By backing organizations like ours, the Omaha Community Foundation is helping create a more inclusive and compassionate city—one furnished living room at a time. If you’d like to make a difference, consider visiting the Refugee Community Grant Fund page for donation options.
