Share the Warmth: A February Call for Helping Hands
This time of year, we and other service organizations often see a slowdown in volunteer groups. This is natural: the busy holiday season is behind us, the weather is cold and schedules are full. However, our work is especially crucial this time of year.
February may be the shortest month of the year, but it’s full of opportunities to make an impact. While many of us are staying cozy indoors this winter, our work of delivering hope, comfort and dignity to families who need a place to call home continues.
This time of year, we and other service organizations often see a slowdown in volunteer groups. This is natural: the busy holiday season is behind us, the weather is cold and schedules are full. However, our work is especially crucial this time of year. Research has shown that cold indoor temperatures in the winter are linked to respiratory issues, poor sleep and increased strain on the body. Soft furnishings like beds, rugs and upholstered furniture can help insulate people from freezing temperatures and reduce winter-related health risks.
“Volunteering with TFP has been incredibly rewarding. The work we do helps members of our community as well as the environment.”
February isn’t just a time for candy hearts and Super Bowl Sunday, it’s also a time to show love and solidarity for others. Spending a few hours volunteering is a simple yet powerful way to share warmth with others this winter.
Our volunteers help us sort donated items, prepare items for delivery – including cleaning and repairing used items – and support our office staff. In our warehouse, there’s a role for everyone.
If you’ve volunteered with us before, we’d love to see you again. And if you’ve never joined us, this is a perfect time to start! Bring your coworkers, family or friends and help us fill homes with comfort and care.
Sign up volunteer with us today. Together, we can make sure that every family in Omaha has a comfortable place to sit, rest and rejuvenate – no matter the season.
