By donating furniture and household goods, you’re giving items a second life and helping furnish homes for neighbors in our community. Use the guide below to see what we accept and how to donate.

Donation quick check

  1. Are items clean & ready?

    Free of stains, rips/tears, pests, excessive pet hair, and strong odors(smoke/pets/mildew).

  2. Are items safe & functional?

    Sturdy and usable as-is. Drawers work, legs are stable, nothing missing, broken, or loose.

  3. Is the item essential?

    Is it something a family would use daily (not too specialized)?

  4. Is it standard size?

    Functional for small spaces, under ~6ft tall, and not unusually heavy or awkward to move?

Mattress & Bulky Item Guidelines

  • • Clean mattresses free of stains, odors, rips, or damage
    • Mattresses that are structurally sound and in good condition
    • Standard-size furniture that fits typical home spaces
    • Items that can be safely moved by two people

  • • Mattresses with stains, odors, rips, or signs of pests
    • Mattresses that are heavily worn, sagging, or damaged
    • Oversized or unusually heavy furniture
    • Items that cannot fit through standard doorways or hallways
    • Items that require disassembly or special equipment to move

  • • Mattresses should be clean and ready to use immediately
    • Items should be easily accessible for pickup (garage, driveway, or curbside)
    • If an item is unusually large or heavy, we may not be able to accept it

How Donating Works

  1. Gather Your Items

    Check our Full List of Accepted Items to see what we accept. Focus on sturdy, gently used pieces you’d gladly give a friend.

  2. Request a Pickup or Plan a Drop-off

    Pickup:Fill out our Request a Local Pickup Form or hire a trusted mover.
    Drop-off: Bring items to our warehouse docks during open dock hours.

  3. Be Prepared for Donating Items

    Pickup: Please place items in an easy-to-access spot such as a garage, driveway, or curbside day of.

    Drop-off: Back up to an open dock door and staff will greet you.

  4. We Distribute Donated Items

    Our team distributes donated items to neighbors in need via agency referrals with urgency and care.

  5. Donation Impact

Ready to Donate

If you are in the Omaha metro area and would like to request a furniture donation pickup, please complete our form. We request that the furniture be stored in a garage, curbside or other easily accessed area on the day of pickup.

Order from our Amazon Wishlist and have it sent directly to our warehouse.

Monday - Friday | 10 am – 3 pm
Saturday | 10 am – 1 pm

Our staff will be available at our dock to assist you with your donation.

Need it Picked Up Sooner?

Our trucks fill fast. If you are able, please consider hiring a trusted local mover to deliver the items you wish to donate. This option maximizes the impact of each gift by allowing our trucks and staff to focus on prioritizing critically needed items for the families who don’t have the resources or transportation to access furniture on their own.

These companies are independent of The Furniture Project. Fees are paid directly to the mover. If you hire a mover to deliver items, please list The Furniture Project warehouse as the delivery destination so we can issue your tax receipt.
